I Spent a Week in This Lesser-known Part of Thailand and It Was Paradise — Here's What to See and Do

Escape the crowds and discover the unspoiled beauty of lesser-known Thailand. My week-long adventure revealed pristine beaches, lush jungles, and charming local villages. Explore hidden temples, indulge in delicious Thai cuisine, and unwind with a traditional massage. For an authentic and tranquil Thai experience, this region offers unparalleled paradise and unforgettable activities.

For seven glorious days, I immersed myself in Trang's laid-back atmosphere, exploring its emerald islands, savoring its delicious cuisine, and befriending the incredibly welcoming locals. If you're looking for an escape from the crowds and a taste of the "real" Thailand, Trang should be at the top of your list. Here's a glimpse into my week in paradise and some tips to help you plan your own unforgettable adventure.

Island Hopping Adventures: A Trang Must-Do

Trang is renowned for its stunning archipelago, boasting pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs. Island hopping is, without a doubt, the highlight of any trip to this region. Several islands offer unique experiences, each with its own distinct charm.

I opted for a longtail boat tour, which allowed me to explore at my own pace and visit several islands in a single day. Here's a breakdown of some of the highlights:

  • Koh Mook (Emerald Cave): The iconic Emerald Cave, also known as Tham Morakot, is an absolute must-see. Swimming through a dark tunnel, you emerge into a hidden lagoon surrounded by towering cliffs. It's a truly magical experience.
  • Koh Kradan: Often touted as having one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand, Koh Kradan lives up to the hype. Powder-soft sand, turquoise waters, and swaying palm trees create a picture-perfect paradise.
  • Koh Ngai: This island offers a more tranquil vibe with luxurious resorts nestled along its pristine coastline. It's perfect for relaxing on the beach, swimming, and snorkeling in the clear waters.
  • Koh Libong: As the largest island in Trang, Koh Libong offers a more local experience. You can observe dugongs in their natural habitat, explore mangrove forests, and enjoy delicious seafood at local restaurants.

When booking your island hopping tour, consider the time of year and sea conditions. The dry season (November to April) typically offers the best weather for boating and snorkeling. Don't forget to pack sunscreen, a hat, swimwear, and a waterproof bag to protect your belongings.

Delving into Trang Town: Markets, Murals, and Mouthwatering Food

While the islands are undoubtedly Trang's main draw, don't overlook the charming town of Trang itself. It's a vibrant hub with a rich history, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Spend some time exploring the local markets, where you can sample exotic fruits, browse handcrafted souvenirs, and soak up the local atmosphere. Don't miss the Trang Night Market, which comes alive in the evenings with street food vendors offering a wide array of culinary delights. Be sure to try the local specialty, roasted pork, known as "Moo Yang."

Trang town is also known for its impressive street art scene. Take a stroll around town and admire the colorful murals that adorn the walls of buildings, depicting scenes from local life and culture. You can even take a guided walking tour to learn more about the stories behind the art.

And of course, no trip to Trang would be complete without indulging in its delicious food. From fresh seafood to spicy curries, Trang's culinary scene is a delight for the senses. Be sure to try the local restaurants and cafes to experience the authentic flavors of southern Thailand.
